I’ve really had my nose in a book recently!

Just finished reading J.M. Coetzee’sDisgrace. A reading experience I’ll cherish. Unfortunately, I find myself often pushing through books from front to back fearful of being haunted by them when leaving their pages unread.Disgrace is the exact opposite of that kind of exercise.
A page turner, Coetzee details the life of a communications professor— a kind of bildungsroman for the age steeped. A Byronesque/machiavellian character, David Lurie seduces a middling student in his Romantics course. Short story short: his world becomes shit afterwards.
Coetzee’s prose is concise and has purpose. No Hawthornian gluts of detail here. Every sentence serves immediate function. A story of heedless revenge, incautious eros and mediocrity.
A short and rewarding read to be sure.
is more like 500 pages of boredomtude.
Summer reading is off to a sleepy start.
